Red Deer Regional Airport (RDRA) is proposing to extend Taxiway Alpha toward the north by approximately 1000 m. The proposed taxiway extension would also include:

-Reconstruction of a portion of Taxiway A between Apron V and Runway 17-35; and,
-A new holding bay/ run-up area.

Rehabilitation of a portion of Apron II is also proposed for construction this year.

Work on this project is anticipated to begin with stockpiling of granular base and sub-base materials commencing in mid-February 2024 until the end of March when the County “Road Ban” will go into effect. The main construction activities are anticipated to commence in mid-May 2024, or sooner, depending on
ground conditions. Substantial completion of the project is scheduled for mid-October 2024.

The following approximate quantities are anticipated for this project:
- 87,000 cubic meters of excavation and associated earth moving
- 26,000 sq m of Asphalt Milling
- 76,000 tonnes of Granular Sub-base
- 26,000 tonnes of Granular Base
- 12,300 tonnes of Asphalt Base Course
- 6,000 tonnes of Asphalt Surface Course
- 2,760 m of 200 mm HDPE Sub-Drain
- 30 Pre-cast Aircraft Rated Manholes
- 3,075- 53 mm HDPE Conduit and Associated ASLC Cable
- 86 LED Medium Intensity Edge Lights and Associated pullpits
- 10 New LED Guidance Signs
